|
|
Hello all,
I've got a strange problem that I can't quite explain. I'm using Writer to work on a table on an A0-size paper. The table covers the entire sheet. I've formatted the text to be centered in the middle of the cell and I've got four lines in the cell. Two of the lines center correctly, the others stay aligned left.
I've noticed that the lines don't center until they're at least 32 characters long. As soon as I type the 32nd character, the line jumps into the middle, but before that, it's aligned left. Any ideas why??
Thanks!

Can not replicate. Every line in table (1 column, 1 row) centers immediately.
What OS and version of OOo? |

FWIW, I'm on Win 7, with OOo 3.2.1, build 9502.
When, before I type anything, I do Ctrl+E or tap the Center icon my cursor immediately jumps to the center of the table. Does yours? |

Nope, it doesn't do anything in the table.
I tried it in other documents and it does it just fine. After testing that, I started a new document and copied over all of the contents from my old table into it. All the stuff that should be centered was centered, but the page was too large (it needs to be A0 and the page was formatted for A4).
Because the size A0 isn't automatically included in my writer page settings (I've got A-everything, I think, except for A0, although I have A0 in Impress) I have to set the sizes manually. Those are 84.10 x 118.90 cm. After setting the page size manually on the new document, the same problem came back - the short entries weren't centered correctly. |

| OK, I can replicate it with page that size. I think it is just bigger than OOo is designed to handle. |

| Okay... Any ideas of a workaround at least or a fix? It really sucks for me and anyone else who wants to make posters. |

| Got a workaround. It's not pretty, but it works alright if the column isn't too narrow: An equal number of spaces on either side of the text that should be centered. Once the critical length is reached, the text jumps into a centered position. I guess Writer centers it because the block is long enough, but when it's printed the spaces aren't shown, of course. |
