Upgrading to 3.2.1 on Windows 7 X64 I now get this error when I try to start it.
Can anybody shed and light on what is going on?

| Are you doing the update through the built in updater? If so I'd recommend a direct download from www.openoffice.org . |

Here's whats happened and where I am at.
I tried the 'updater' and all went well until I tried to open openoffice whereby I got the above fatal error.
I then completely uninstalled OO including removing the user profile, and reinstalled using the direct downloaded version you linked to above.
I had the same problem.
I read that it could be to do with the Java install, so I installed the latest Java and it now opens.
BUT........it crashes after a few seconds. |

| Try resetting the user profile http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426 . I don't recommend the updater at all. Its not very robust and the download is always a full version anyway. I usually download the version without the JRE. Also make sure that you are using the 32bit Java version. OOo is a 32bit app. |

Thanks for the reply.
I did say in my previous reply that I had already deleted my profile completely and it made no difference.
Which is the English (UK) version without the JRE. |

Yes I understand that you deleted the profile and then re-installed which creates a new profile. Try resetting the new one. You can get the non-JRE versions here http://download.openoffice.org/other.html#tested-full. Uncheck the box just above the listings to download the version without JRE.
Did you install a 32bit version of Java? |

I have just uninstalled openoffice again, along with deleting my profile again.
I also deleted Java.
I reinstalled openoffice. reinstalled Java.
Now when I open openoffice, it opens for about 10 seconds then crashes and instigates a recovery. It does this every time. |

Now trying it again!
Ive managed to edit the link (since checking/unchecking did not change the download).
I'll try it again once its finished downloading. |

Installed OO3.2 without JRE.
Ran OO and it gives the same Fatal error as I included in my first post above.
At this time, nothing is helping.
If anything I have just gone backwards since it wont run at all now. |

I'm not sure but maybe something with W7. Experiencing the same problem, if anyone could give any idea, please do not hesitate.
Thanks. _________________ Avatar The Last Airbender Toys Aang Katara

Ive tried it all again from the start.
But its just stuck in an endless loop of crashing and recovering.
Doesn't matter if its a blank document or not.
Can anybody make any suggestions as to what I could try? |

| I'm about out of ideas. Try uninstalling again and use CCLEANER http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds to clean the registry of any trace of OOo. I'd suggest the slim build. Beyond this it may be something in Windows as suggested by Sendi2010. |

Thanks again for the reply, but I have been using CCleaner for years and years. I always uninstall using it, and periodically clean the registry.
I want to go back to a version I was using before, but cannot find any for download. Are the previous versions not archived somewhere??? I cant seem to find them. |

| I must also add that I have not had any problems in the years I have been using Openoffice until I recently updated it. |
