Using database file for labels

Thanks for the quick reply. Clicking on View>Field Names in the label page toggles between this:

<Title> <LastName>
<Address>
<City>
<StateOrProvince>
<PostalCode>

And this:

Addresses.Addresses.Title Addresses.Addresses.LastName
Addresses.Addresses.Address
Addresses.Addresses.City

And so on. In either case if I then go to Page Preview, this switches to the first format, above. I still don't get the actual addresses. Incidentally, the database I am using in this example is called Addresses.odb, and when I click on Data Sources, the correct database appears at the top.

Any more ideas?

OK. You want to see the first grouping in your document:
<Title> <LastName>
<Address>
<City>
<StateOrProvince>
<PostalCode>

I don't know how you are doing the preview but try File-->Print and say yes to the form letter prompt. You will then have the option to print all records (default) or selected records. You can also print to a file if you wish. If you open your writer document you can select your query or table and select some records. Then click the Data to Fields icon to see a preview. The Data to Fields icon will only give you one page which is why I suggested the File-->Print approach.

I was previewing using the Page Preview button. This technique works in MS Works, but clearly not in OOo.

Now I have tried File-->Print and yes to the form letter prompt (although that last step seemed wrong to me), and it worked ! I can't thank you enough - the Christmas cards will go out on time!

I have to say that OOo is the most counter-intuitive software I have ever used, and the help menu is useless. I bought a copy of Open Office for Dummies from Amazon, and it doesn't even have databases on it! Must be out of date.

I've read these posts with interest as I'm having similar problems. I've set up my information using Base & registered it. am creating the labels OK. Things go wrong when I get to Mail Merge. When that window appears, the databse is shown to the left of a dialogue box. I click on the + sign next to the DB & 2 sublevels appear (+ Queries & + Tables). I click on + Tables & the actual file then appears & when clicking on that all the data shows in the dialogue box. I'm using the Standard filter to select only the fields I want, but when that's sent to the printer it appears as
<Title>
<First Name>
<Last Name>
<Address>
<City>
<Postal Code>
I'm missing something but can't figure out what. Can you help, please?

Make sure that View--->Field Names is turned off.

Thanks for replying, guys. Before going through the whole thing again, can I check the following?
- is there another way to turn View->Fields off besides not using that step?
- should I expect to see the information change from the Field headings to the actual information I want? (ie people's names & addresses)
