have feature to automatically save the document ?

Does Writer have feature to automatically save the document even if new and un saved?

I recommended to a friend & novice to use the MSworks WP since it would do what I thought he needed. Unfortunately, he somehow ended the works session without naming or saving what he was working on. Will he do it again? IDK - will OO Writer auto save even a temp document?

OOo does not have an auto save feature. Have your friend do File--->Save As as soon as he begins a file. Also set Tools-->Options-->Load/Save-->General "Always create backup copy". This will make a file named filename.bak each time the file is saved. The backup file is saved in the user profile

Teach your friend to periodically press CTRL-S to save the file. Otherwise I'm afraid there is not much you can do. OOo does open a temp file during editing but it typically goes away when the app is closed.
