I just installed OO from a disk. In the templates section there's a choice for samples. Under that it says more are available on line. But there aren't any samples in the sample section. What's up with that? Also in the word processor, I don't see any choice for envelopes. Where are those hiding?
Did a tutorial come with the disk. If so, where is that? |

What exact version of OOo are you running? Use Help about. What OS and where did you get the disk from? Templates are here http://templates.services.openoffice.org/
From the main menu: Insert--->Envelope |

I've got OO 3.2 from DGrffith82 at Amazon.com. I've got a new HP desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium. I got the disk because my dial-up service is not great for downloading large files. So I'm sorry I didn't get any templates with the disk -- I checked again using help. Help sent me to the same empty template sample icon.
Also, do I need to do something with the data base wizard? It's asking if I want to open a new data base or an existing data base. I don't know the answer.
thanks for your help. |

I went to the template download site and that's got problems too. If I choose use it, the template appears hidden behind a lower toolbar that takes up half my monitor screen. If I download it, all I get is the use it button -- a PNG file -- and no template.
The good news is I figured out how to make an envelope. I haven't tried it yet, though. Wish me luck. |

| You missed this at the Template download link "To download: Press right mouse button and choose: Save target as...". You other option to download is P2P. It should work well with dial up http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ |

Thanks again for the help. Instead of choosing "save target as," I was choosing "save picture as." Now I'm having trouble getting envelopes printed. After I format for an envelope, when I view what is to be printed, its envelope info on a letter sized format. So of course it doesn't print right.
This time I'm going to sleep on it. That might solve the problem. |

Thanks for the tips. After I got a night of sleep, I clicked help in the top toolbar, scrolled down the index to envelope, selected envelope and carefully followed the directions. The only tricky thing was all the experimenting and adjusting I had to do to format the envelope so it worked with my printer.
On the envelope window, clicking insert -- on the bottom toolbar -- instead of new doc, got my envelope info printed on an envelope instead of an 8"x11" sized format. I think because I'm skipping a document printing, my printer is confused. It spits out my envelope blank, the first time, and prints it when I send it through the 2nd time.
I'm happy with that, but I'll check out that bonanza of envelope tips you've linked me to. |
