Images Will Not Show

I have just installed open office after converting from windows to Ubuntu linux.
I opened some of the word documents that I prepared on my PC and very few of my inserted images show up.
Any idea why this is the case.

These images were probably inserted as linked files, rather than embedded. I never had issues with embedded images in Word documents.

So I took my word docx fille in office 2010 and converted all the linked images into embedded pictures and then converted the document into doc.
Works perfectly now

Ok so I played around this for a while and thought Id share how I got around this problem without dual booting into windows.
I installed word 2007 using wine (works pretty well).
Loaded up the doc or docx file in word 2007.
Clicked on each linked file and converted to picture (ctrl+shift+f9)
I also made sure that I had the compatibility checker enabled
office>prepare>check compatibility

Then I saved file as doc and it was good to open in open office.

I have installed Open Office 3.2 on Windows8 trial and tried to open a .docx document. The document opened without a problem but none of the images embedded in the document could be seen.

The images were not linked to any other documents, but were charts from a statistical package which I copied and pasted into the .docx document.

I suspect this is because Open Office cannot completely decode a .docx document, which may be causing this problem. If someone knows differently, please let me know.
