hi guys! i was just wondering if OOo can have an advertisement about this forum? because only a few experts are roaming inside the community threads, so an improportionate deviation of "ASKERS" and "SOLVERS" is happening... to illustrate it exactly; i think the ratio of experts to "ASKERS" is 1:500 users i think.. (this was only an estimation).. my point here is we should advertise about this forum to seek more help for the benefit of the "ASKERS" (just like me hehehehe....^^) in this way the forum will gather more and more users.... am i right? ^^

I would like to add that this way will not only benefit to the ratio of "ASKERS" to "SOLVERS" if the "HIGHER OFFS" of this community recruit many "SOLVERS" as they can, then the time for the "ASKERS" waiting for them by the problem to be solved would be in an instant!!! what i mean is if you have posted something "URGENT" then you won't have to wait for a day or two for the thread to be solved... (just like happening to me; my problem in Impress is very urgent but still no answers are coming from it; it was still unresponsive) ^^ just an opinion.. no offense MODS and ADMINS!!! ^^ (I'm dead meat again to ftack) ahahahahaha!

Everyone here is a volunteer, the "higher offs",as you call them, have no say here. If the need is so urgent and no one here seems to be able to help, maybe it is time to call/write Oracle, or some other paid support, and pay for the help.

yup! i know that guru... everyone else in here is volunteer... that's why the "ASKERS" are also here because they don't wanna pay either... it was only my opinion and it comes to my mind because other forums have their own advertisements.. am i right? have you encountered one?

The only forum site that I visit that has a "sponsor" is the 'Official' OOo forum at [1] and that is Oracle hosted site. The "Solver" there are also volunteers. Give it a try as well, I will see you there.

^^ not interested in the forum with sponsors 'coz the HIGHER OFFS in communities like that are boastful and abusive... just like the forum on HONDA, KAWASAKI, MANGAFOX and so on... i like it in here because the HIGHER OFFS are resprcting the USERS reaction and response to each other... so tell me does problem solving in that other forum is quicker in this one? thanx for suggestion buddy!!!

If you follow the support links on the OOo web site you will find that this is the oldest OOo support forum. The other is called "official" as it is hosted on servers owned by OOo. It was started due to some problems with this forum from time to time. Both are volunteer supported and share some of the same users.

(bump) im gonna revive this topic again.. because i do not want to turn this forum community into waste... I noticed that as day goes by... the visitors are decreasing in numbers and the spam messages are increasing rapidly... there are people who destroy the community by pasting their advertisement links in the community and it shows no good to us...

Actually the spam has been around for years, and that's one reason why the other forum was started - as you have no doubt noticed, this forum is no longer upgraded, and nothing is done to make life hard for spammers. Most of the best question answerers have gone to the new forum - Hagar, Acknak etc, but this forum is still running surprisingly well. Don't fuss around too much over community issues - if a forum can't stay alive, it will die, no matter how much effort a few people put into keeping it alive. But I don't see this forum dying yet. It has a very large number of valuable topics with solved problems, so it will stay alive for quite a while still.

Please do not read any statement here as positive or negative, I will attempt to state facts as they are.

At first there was only one forum, this forum (at least of which I am aware anyway). This forum is setup and maintained by one person. Some active members desired to have more access and control over the forum, but that did not happen so we setup a new forum. I put many hours into setting up the new forum, but, I don't really have time to spend on two forums so I spend most of my time on this forum. Most of my time on this forum is spent doing things such as removing spammers and such.

You mention a strong up-tick in spam. Well, we are currently running an older version of the forum software and the spammers are able to defeat the controls that are in place. The site owner is looking at updating the forum, I have not heard back on any timeframe.

It seems that we have a new batch of spammers on the loose. I expect that this is because a very large spam network was recently taken down and that the new batch does not have the restraint or knowledge of the previous group, so, they do thingws such as creating a single account and then simply spam forever until the account is deleted or the IP is blocked.
