Getting started with AutoText.
AutoText entries are extremely handy. You type a shortcut key(s) followed immediately by F3 and your defined text and/or field is automatically entered, e.g., one of the built-in AutoText entries is DT so dtF3 enters some dummy text. Another built-in one is YT – try it and see what you get.
There are 3 built-in categories of AutoText entries, Business Cards, Templates and Standard, however, these are protected and you can not create new entries in these categories. You need to create a new category for your personal entries, as follows.
Do Crtl+F3, click the Categories button and in the Path box drop down menu change to the one that ends with “/3/user/autotext”. In the Category box type a new name – I suggest something that starts with an “A” like “AllMine” so it will appear at the top of the list. Click New and OK out.
Creating an AutoText entry.
One good use of AutoText is to insert the current date formatted to your liking so I’ll explain how to do that.
In your document do Ctrl+F2 > Document tab, Date, Date(fixed), the Format you like and click Insert. If you would perhaps like the date centered then center it. Now select the date field, do Ctrl+F3, click the + by your personal category, enter a Name, change the suggested Shortcut key(s) if you want something else then click the AutoText button and New. Click Close and you’re done. |
