| No, because I'm too technical and know that it's not possible and it's more fun to make it harder for some users! |

I get this message when trying to create a new database in both Open and Libre Office:
OpenOffice.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. Please install JRE and restart openoffice.
I now have 3 different JRE's installed on my Windows 7 64bit system. JRE 1.6_26 and 1.7 for 64 bit windows and 1.7 for 32bit and still no luck. And it doesn't work to point too any of their folders either in options on both office versions of Base.
Any suggestions of how I could solve this? I need Base!

Hi André,
I had the same problem last week with installing it on a 64 bit Win 7 system.
I had success when I executed OpenOffice in XP Compatibility mode, installed JRE 1.6_26 with all required extensions.
Then I changed the Compatibility mode back and everything worked fine.
I don't know if this was just luck, but it's worth trying.

Hi Martin,
that's strange, but it worked for me too! Thanks!

I don't think OOo can use any of those versions. I know it can't use any 64-bit version, and I've seen reports that it can't use JRE 7 which seems to be the only 32-bit version you have installed. |
