|
|
Hi guys,
I wasn't able to find out if this is possible: I would like to split a .doc document in small parts so that many people can translate them. Ideally, it would be possible to re-merge these parts once the translation is done. Is this something possible with Writer?
Thanks,
Eric |

| I don't know of any elegant ways to do it. You can always split it into various files by cutting and pasting, naming them with a number according to the order they belong in (and telling people not to rename them!), then add them successively back into the file that is at the beginning of the document with the Insert - File command, or just copy and paste back in. If you split it up by making various copies of the original first, then deleting out the unwanted part of each, you can preserve any custom styles in each document, but that would be more work in terms of splitting the file up. |

I think the splitting would have to be done manually - select a chuck, copy and paste into an empty document. I would then create a master document and link all the split documents to this - the master will show you the sum total of all the individual sub docs. If you link any in the wrong place it is very easy to move them around.
Give the individual sub docs to people, for translation, and then just replace the sub docs when they come back. (do keep an original somewhere safe though).
At any time the master will show the 'merged' version (update links when opening the master). I would not replace a sub doc while the master is open, although you probably can as long as you update the links afterwards. _________________ Kubuntu 11.10 LibreOffice3.4.4 |
