Question about leveraging OOo libraries with Java language

I have heard that it is possible to use java libraries that are a part of openoffice
from compile java classes, using the java language. I have heard this facility in OOo
is called UNO, but I'm not sure that's true.

Is there a tutorial, example set or such either online the internet as html documents
or as a downloadable pdf file? Can I please have the url link for such?

Further, whereabouts is the appropriate jar file from which to import java package classes
(presumably covered in the aforementioned tutorial?)

I am having difficulty formulating my question for you, so, so, please grant me a bit of grace and assume that I do not intend this question to be as harsh as it may sound.

It may be easier to provide a useful answer if you tell us what you want to do. For example:

Look at the code (curiosity).
Write an extension in Java.
Manipulate a document.
Use OOo code in your own program.
