How to stop underlining numbers

I am using Styles to underline headers and outline numbering for paragraphs - which include headings.

When the heading is set to underline, the associated outline number automatically underlines. Try as I might I can't workout how to stop this happening.

If I take off the underlining in Styles then I can avoid this happening - but this defeats the objects of Styles!!

Are there any answers?

The numbers of an outline can be assigned a character style (Tools - Outline numbering, Numbering tab). You therefore can have the number formatted in a different way than the paragraph style. In your case, you would have underline on in the Heading 1 paragraph style, but then have a custom character style specified in the "Tools - Outline numbering" dialog that turns off underlinng for the outline number.

Thanks. That's hlpful. I'm having a problem making it work - but I can see how it should be done and will work at it.
