Is there a date stamp in writer. I don't want to have to write out the whole date all the time - especially if i don't know off hand what the actual date is.

| When i insert the date field i get "date (fixed)" but no date. Do i need to activate the date or something? |

Choose > View , then decativate Fields (get rid of the tick in front) then you will see the date.
Other method is to define a macro for the input of the field and then assign that to a keypress.
