Hi - I'm editing a long document that was created by someone else in Word 2007 as a .docx document. I've used OO 3.2 Writer to convert the document to a standard .doc file, which worked OK.
Now I am trying to re-format the document using a new OO Writer template that I have created, but I can't get it to apply to the whole document.
Is it possible that old layout codes are still embedded in the document, or what?
Can someone help me with this?

IIRC you need an extension to change the template attached to a file, but nothing stops you from starting a new document based on that template and then copy/pasting the contents of the old file into the new one.

Ah, thanks very much! The document is around 100,000 words, and I was concerned that its formatting would carry over into the new document, and end up in a muddle.
I will try to copy and paste it into a fresh document now.

Well, it sort of works... The margins and fonts are right, but the line and paragraph spacing is wrong. Maybe I can change that another way.

Make sure that you haven't applied direct formatting anywhere - that takes precedence over all styles.

Thanks for your help!
You mean that line spacing is 'direct formatting', and will be carried over into the new template...?
Every new paragraph has extra line space, which isn't in the new template, and the line spacing is wrong too.
I guess I will have to do that manually, which is a big task.

Any formatting not done in a style is direct formatting. You may have the line spacing in a style that's not available in your new template, or it's direct formatting. You can use Find and click More options, then find the formatting you want to change and Find all to select all wrong formatting and then you can press Ctrl+M to remove all direct formatting and then apply the correct style.
