Not responding ?

Frequently when I open OO 3.1.1 it hangs when opening a document, either calc or writer, and it takes a few minutes to actually be useful. I get the message at the top:

"Not responding".

Is this completely unusual, or should I believe than my computer is dying a slow death?

Sorry for the late reply. That's not normal behaviour. Reset your user profile. Click here for help how to do that. If that doesn't help, a repair install may help.

After saving a file (in either writer or calc), when I go back, and try to open the file again, the program allows me to enter a few seconds worth of data - then it locks up, with "Program Not Responding" displayed at the very top of the screen. What I did to resolve this issues:

"Stop the automatic updates "

To do this, follow these VERY SIMPLE STEPS.

Open up a new document - don't use one already saved.

a) select: 'tools'
b) select: 'Options'
c) select: 'Online Updates'
d) un-check the check box for: 'check for updates automatically'.

This seems to have resolved the issue for me.
(I am running OO 3.3.0 and windows 7)
