Converting writer document with columns to microsoft word

I have an odt file with 2 columns. In writer, I use a manual column break. If I attempt to save as Office XP file, the file appears to be saved with an extra paragraph break which then causes the column break to force the 2nd column onto a 2nd page. Saving in odt format works fine but I need to share the documnent with Word users. (I have also tried rtf and html formats but they either don't support columns correctly or can't handle the small graphic picture in column 2).
