missing scroll arrows

This is driving me slightly crazy.....I look over at the scroll bars on the right bottom of page in Writer and there are no single scroll arrows for up and down. I am on a mac running lion with OOO3.3.

I have the double arrows, but those activate searches forward and backward. Have not found any reference to how to find/activate/use the scroll arrows.

Anyone?

ps, I also cannot grab the lozenge and move it up and down. also, cannot click just ahead of lozenge to advance pages.
