Change Lock File extensions xls# and doc# ?

Is there any way to change the extention of the lock files, particularly the xls# and doc# ?

I'm trying to avoid having these lock files indexed by Windows Search (or Windows Desktop Search), but WS and WDS don't distinguish between xls and xls#, nor between doc and doc#, so it's not possible to exclude just .xls# and .doc#.

Ideas?
