|

Hello.
When I 'copy and paste' text from an email program to a 'text document,' the text lines
up against the left border. On the 1st line, I press the space bar and the text moves
from the left border to the right but text on the 2nd line onwards does not move away
from the left border.
When I click 'Page Preview,' the box is too far to the left. How do I enlarge the margins?
What setting needs to be changed or am I missing something?
Also, when 'editing,' where is the 'cancel' button?

Hi, you need to get comfortable with how a word processor works. You shouldn't use the space bar or tab key to indent text, there are better tools for that. You also shouldn't use the Enter key to set a line spacing. Instead of all that press F11, that opens the list of styles. Right click in Default and select Modify, then work your way through all the tabs, but for your problems Spacings and Indents is particularly important. Note that you can change left and right margin widths, you can have different or the same behaviour for the first line of a paragraph and the rest (for example only first line line indents), spacing etc. Read everything about paragraph formatting in the Help that comes with OOo (and of course you can search the forum).
This question really belongs in the Writer section. I'll move it there when you have replied so you know where it's going, no action on your side is necessary. _________________ LibreOffice 3.6.3; OOo 3.4.1 on Windows Vista

Hello.
My question has still not been answered though.
I am used to MS Word 2007 so this program is a change for me.
When I type text in 'writer,' I can cursor over to the start of the 2nd line and press the space bar to move text over to the right so it is further away fromthe left border but I cannot 'space' text on the 2nd line to the right when I have 'copied and pasted' text.
When I highlight a 'copy and paste' message and and choose 'default,' I can cursor over to the 2nd line and press 'enter' once and the cursor stays on that line and then press the space bar tomove text over to the right.
Why can I do what I want with 'copy and pasted' text when I highlight it and then choose default?
What does 'default, heading 1-3, and text body' refer to anyways? |

You are asking some pretty basic questions. It's much better that you consult the Help or the Writer guide or the Wiki: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation
Default, heading 1-3 etc. refer to styles, that are also available in Word (but there they work just that bit differently). Have to run now. _________________ LibreOffice 3.6.3; OOo 3.4.1 on Windows Vista

The 'User Guide' is what I was looking for.
Thanks. |
