I linked a cell using the copy and shift+control+v method for special pasting. The text links and appears on screen. When I print the worksheet, the special paste formula prints instead of what I see on screen (the linked text).

Sound like there is a tick in the following checkbox...
"Formulae" on the "Sheet" tabsheet of the "Page Style: Default" dialogue that you get to by going Format|Page...
Remove that tick before printing.
