For a long time now I have had the problem that the "Find" function will not work correctly. This problem is both in Text Doc and Spreadsheet. In Text it mostly returns nonsensical strings while in the spreadsheet it does not find the target.
I'm using Open Office 3.3.0 and Window 7 Home Premium w/Service pack 1.
Copying the spreadsheet to my MS Office free starter version the Find function works fine so I presume the cells are correctly configured.
Any suggestions would be welcome. |

Many issues related to find and replace are caused by enabling regular expressions without being aware of it. Click More options in the Find/replace dialog to expand the options, and see if Regular expressions is ticked. Untick and see if that helps.
Failing that, you have to tell us the specifics of "will not work correctly".
IOW, how does it work?
What did you search for, and what did you get? |

thank you for info about the "more options" dialogue.
my "find and replace" had inexplicably been searching backwards.
I went to the "more options" only to find that, sure enough, the box for "backwards" was checked!
holy cow, no wonder!
thanks for putting me back on a forward path! _________________ "making the world safe for wallpaper"
