A bit over a month ago I made a posting, which never seems to have been replied to. I'm repeating it, hoping that someone who missed my earlier post sees it.
I'm preparing a long book-length manuscript using OOo Writer, and the index has some weird problems. While most of the entries look just fine, with the entry left-justified, the list of page numbers right-justified, and a row of dots between, a few are formatted differently: the page list is not right-justified, and there is no row of dots. I just recently switched computers, from one running Windows Vista to one with Windows 7, if this helps. Can anyone figure out what is going on, and how to fix this? _________________ Running OpenOffice.org v. 3.3.0 under Windows 7 Home Premium |

Without a shot at the file itself, that's very hard to say. Here are some wild guesses: There might be something wrong with the paragraph style for those lines, or there may be something wrong with the xml in the file. In what file format are you saving? Many people have trouble with OOo because they insist on saving in MS Word format.

I tried working with the paragraph style; nothing seemed to be wrong there, and it's a long index and yet most of the listings are just fine. And I'm saving in the OOo standard .odt format. The only time I save anything in MS Word format is if I'm taking it over on a flash drive to a library -- since their computers don't have anything but MS Office. And I've never done this with this particular file. _________________ Running OpenOffice.org v. 3.3.0 under Windows 7 Home Premium |

But thanks for the reference to the new forum; I was not aware of its existence. _________________ Running OpenOffice.org v. 3.3.0 under Windows 7 Home Premium |

Turns out, by going to the new forum, I found out the answer. Since someone might find my post here, I'll summarize what I found. If the paragraph style for index entries has a "hanging indent" and the entry is short enough that it does not reach the length of that indent, this problem will occur.
Thanks for the link. _________________ Running OpenOffice.org v. 3.3.0 under Windows 7 Home Premium |
