I've been searching all over for this, please help. When i highlight a cell, I can not drag it anywhere. The mouse pointer never changes from an arrow.
If i double click the contents, i can drag it, but that will copy the contents.
I can pull the box in the lower right corner to copy or continue a sequence.
But all i want to do is drag a cell to a new spot!
I have the latest updated version 3.4. Running Windows 7.
Thanks in advance!

Why? I don't think it is possible but I really don't understand why one would want to> _________________ jrkrideau

Why do we want this? It doesn't matter, we just want it.
I've become accustomed to moving cells to rearrange layout or make space for additional cells as I think up new ideas.
The application notes say it can be done.... So how can it be done? It certainly doesn't appear to function for me as it does in Excel.
Has anyone out there managed to move cells by drag and drop? I'd really like to know how you did it in Calc.
regards

I to wanted to do this & was given this method:-
Move Data to Different Cell by Drag & Drop
1. Select the cell
2. Do NOT use the handle in the bottom right corner
3. Instead hold the cell and drag down (or up or sideways), then drag back to the first cell selected.
4. Grab the cell (not using the handle) and drag it to its new location.
Note:- Can also move more than one cell by selecting them at stage 1
On trying it out I found it complicated & found it better to Cut & Paste _________________ Johnoo

You can also Ctrl+Click to achieve this. _________________ LibreOffice 3.6.6 on Fedora 18, LibreOffice 4.0.2 on Ubuntu 13.04 (Double Boot) |

| All I can do is copy with the +. Drag and drop does not work. Looks like you have to cut and paste. I'm used to excel in which it is easy. I've tried all of the suggestions including those in help. Too bad because this is a function that I use a lot. May have to go back to Excel. |

If one or more contiguous Calc cells display(s) the blue selection shading, then it/they can be dragged and dropped.
An important difference between Calc and Excel is the way you grab hold of the cell(s).
In Excel you have to click on the border.
In Calc you grab the inside of the cell(s) (not as fiddley so even users with Parkinson's have great success).
If you're using Calc and you are trying to grab the border, chances are you will fail.
The only slightly tricky thing with Calc is when you are wanting to drag and drop a single cell.
Just clicking the cell then grabbing inside it won't work. This is because a clicked-on cell displays only the thick-black selection border and not the blue selection shading.
Getting a single-cell selection to display the blue selection shading can be achieved by either...
1. Clicking inside the cell then, while holding down the mouse button, drag the mouse pointer outside the cell then immediately back inside then release the mouse button. During this simultaneous 'button-down-drag-out-drag-in' process you should see the blue selection shading appear. After you release the mouse button while the mouse pointer is inside the cell you can then click inside and drag the cell.
or 2. Select the cell then hold down the Ctrl key while you click inside that cell. After releasing the Ctrl key you will be able to click inside the cell to drag and drop it.
