Hi all,

I read everywhere about OOO’s context sensitive help, e.g here
.http://www.openoffice.org/why/why_great.html
but I can’t manage to get it.I tried F1, CTRL+F1, SHIFT+F1. I also tried to put back and reset the help assistant but it just pops up sometimes out of my control.

I am usually able to find my way in OOO’s very clear and well designed help system, but context sensitive help would be very useful to a friend of mine who has been using MS Word like a typewriter for years. I tried to teach him the basics and he is now beginning with OOO and trying to use it correctly. He has of course a lot of questions and problems. However I can’t tell him to use context sensitive help if I’m not able to get it myself. He is using Windows.

I am using OOO 3.3.0 on Linux. Is it just a matter of upgrading to 3.4 ?

Well upgrading might help but I think it's in preferences so probably not.

I'm on Ubuntu LibreOffice at the moment but I think
Tools > Options > OOo > User is the place to look. Just check the tip and help boxes and you should be okay.

I shudder to think of what your friend's files look like. Sad

Everything is checked there : Tips, Extended tips and Help agent.

Especially when you know that he writes documents full of graphics and more than 50 pages long and he is a perfectionist... Wink

Cheers,

I'm sorry, does he have the help working now? it is not clear from your post.

If not try resetting the user profile

You are right, my last message was not clear about that. Actually I already had all those settings checked before my first post. Now I have reset the user profile as you kindly suggested and nothing changes. F1 brings me to the top level entry of the help system, CTRL+F1 does nothing.

I'm afraid that was the end of my no-so-helpful suggestions. The last desperate approach would be to uninstall OOo, wipe out the user profile and reinstall from a new download --after checking the MD5sum.

What is your OS and version of OOo/LO?
If Windows you might want to do a clean sweep by using something like Ccleaner or what is it, Recuva ? to really be sure that you have wiped out everything
