Page number in a box

Can I put the page number field in a box, or do I have to put it in a header/footer or in the main document?

I always put in in the header or footer. Never thought of putting it in a frame (I suppose it is what you meant).

If you want your page numbering to appear repeatedly on the header or footer, then put it there. If you just want to show the page numbering on a particularpage then put it in the 'main document'.

Well I want it to appear repeatedly, but in a frame. I looks like I can't do it, so I think I'll just have to cut/paste my frame on every page and change the number manually.

But I think a missing feature is a background editable like the foreground. So that I could place more than 1 image on the backgound, or I could place text in an odd place.

In fact I miss some features publisher had (but I didn't use it very much though).

As I said i did not use frame so I don't think I can help here. BTW what is your reason to use frame if you can achieve the same result (ie having the page number repeated on every page)?

OK

This is primitive but it will work.

Insert a footer whilst preparing the first page and then set the left and right margins so as it is a little box in the centre of the page. (format\page\footer).

Then with the footer tab still open select the "more" button. You can then give the footer a border.

With the cursor in the border select insert\fields\page number.

That's what I assumed.

Actually, putting a box round the page number looks quite nice on the paper. The beauty of using the footer in this way is you can assign whatever border you want.

Yes, that's how it should look like. If the number of pages is greater than 9, then 10 looks like

1
0

So the page number doesn't take a lot of space and it fit nicely in a margin of an inche.

Hi there!
I'm not sure, because Ooo is non installed on this computer and I cannot verify what follows.
You should activate header or footer in your document.
Click on header or footer and then select insert/frame from the menu bar.
Select the frame and change its properties, you should take care of dimensions and anchor.

You can anchor it as a character for in line page numbering with frame, or you can anchor it to paragraph and then should be possible to move your frame in the page, likely out of header/footer too.

If you have only page number in header/footer, you can also try this: select paragraph properties/borders. Put a border around the page number field and then set width and height of that paragraph.

I'll try these solutions at home tonight...

Hi Roming22,

I think I've got it.

Open an new page and set the page format to Landscape. Remember to set the Text Direction to Right-to-Left (vertical) and also activate your footer. Here I advice you to set your view-zoom-page width.

Click on the foorter and insert a frame by using the menu Insert-Frame. Remember to change the Text Direction under the option tab in the frame dialogue to Right-to-left (vertical). Set the frame to be aligned at the centre and insert Page Numbers there.

So I change the page properties, to invert length and width, then put the page to landscape (so it still looks like a page in portrait mode). The header will be on the left and the footer on the right.

Yes. But I suggest that once you get the hang of switching the page orientation and setting up the footer, do revert back to the normal Portrait orientation, for otherwise you will have to tilt your head 90 degrees to your right while typing your document. Laughing

Well, the footer is dynamic, so it changes with my page orientation (to stay at the bottom), and it is meesing up the layout. I wish I had an LCD screen that can be rotate to portrait, as I could work in lanscape without wrecking my neck. Very Happy
