I'm trying to open a spreadsheet in xls format. I keep getting a password protection error. But the file is not password protected. I had some friends with Excel open it, and it works just fine for them, and they say there is no password. I would really love to get this thing open, but I'm stuck. Is there something I should be doing that I'm not? All I'm doing is downloading the file, and trying to open it.

The file I want to open is located here http://www.rawdogranch.com/howmuch.htm

Any suggestions on how to get this thing open and working would be very much appreciated.

Thank You

Hi Jess. Your problem isn't that your file is password protected. Only it's sheets are password protected.
There seems to be a problem with oo opening some protected office 97 files.
I just unprotected it with a program that extracts the file's password. Twisted Evil

I lefted the unprotected file on my web server.

www.eva-net.com.ar/RawDietPlan_122203(2).xls

I hope that it helps you, i will erase it within some days.

To gabalfonso,
I have copied a macro from the internet that "breaks" the password for a protected sheet file. Is this the same with yours?

To ALL,
Also, is there also similar macro that can "break" the password for a protected Calc sheet (or other ways to unprotect a calc sheet when you forgot the password)?

I used an external application called "Advanced Excel Recovery 2000" or something like this. This program opens your file, and then show you a list of alternatives passwords to open every sheet. I said alternative because even if you set a password like "123", the obtained pass is something like "6bas8234s822". It's weird but they always worked fine for me.
