set font color

The font color button confuses me
I would expect to be able to pull down on it and select a color from a palette.
Instead it simply changes the font color to red.
How do i set the font color?

Hold the mouse button by a couple of seconds, and the button will open.
Many toolbars buttons in OOo work in this way.

There is an inconsistency anyway with the Font color button in Writer. 1) it works differently than in the other modules 2) an issue that was raised here before: http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=12786&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 it only works on a selection of text, i.e.you can't type, then press the color button and then continue typing red text. You need to highlight text before you can apply a color. That issue is know and there is a lot of discussion about it: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=36035
