I would like to have a link (or whatever it might be called) that, when double clicked, will open a specific folder.
I can do this in MS Word by dragging a shortcut to the folder onto the document. If I then open that Word doc with Oo I get exactly what I want!
When I try that in Oo it puts a bunch of text that looks like code into the file. (And you can't undo that operation!)
In Oo I also tried doing an Insert>File... referencing the shortcut. That attempted, I think, to insert the entire contents of the folder (which would have been huge) into the document. I had to go to the task manager and kill the application to get control back.
Thanks,
Larry |

Yes, I have tried the hyperlink dialog. Unfortunately it only works on files.
What I want is a link to a folder such that the folder opens when double clicked.
Thanks,
Larry
PS: Why would I want to do this? I'm writing instructions to go check for a specific file in a specific folder and then do something to that file. So I'd like an easy way to open the enclosing folder to expose the file. |

Ican do it the same way I have to do it in MS$ stuff. Crate a link to a file in that folder, then edit the file name off the end, with hyperllink edit.
I've never made the drag-a-shortcut work over networks, and it certainly doesn't work with links to files not on mapped drive letters. |

Based on what bobharvey said, I just tried using the Hyperlink Dialog to point to a file in the folder of interest and then, before applying the hyperlink, I deleted the filename from the hyperlink displayed in the dialog and got a hyperlink that opens the folder. OK!
Not nearly as simple as dragging a shorcut onto the document but it works.
