Hi there folks, there's a file that i can't open correctly in OpenOffice 1.9.97 - linux version.
My OS is Debian unstable and here is my machine specs:
# uname -a
Linux gilberto 2.6.10-1-686 #1 Fri Mar 11 03:55:46 EST 2005 i686 GNU/Linux
# cat /proc/meminfo
MemTotal: 743840 kB
#head -n8 /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 15
model : 2
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
stepping : 9
cpu MHz : 2799.087
cache size : 512 KB
The .rtf file have just 2 paragraphs. First is small, something about 5 lines, but the second (the "complicated one") are 22 pages longer and justificated.
If it help you I can send you the file if needed.
OpenOffice can open it but just show 12 pages, the last one cutted. It takes too much time... I can't edit the text file neither save, neither edit it...
I'm sorry if this place isn't the correct one to post this, if there is other, please let me know.
Regards,
Gilberto Müller

I have heard that a paragraph in OOo has a limit of 64K characters, maybe you have run into that limit?
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=17171
Is it possible to open the file in another program and insert some <return>s here and there in the loooong paragraph?

It does have a 65535 character limit per paragraph as Magnus said. I'm geussing it's some kind of output from a program as opposed to a human created document. Why do you need it in OOo? There might be something that could be done with a macro to achieve what ever you want as opposed to having to open the file for editing. _________________ Arch Linux

I'm doing some research...
Yes the file was generated by a program, typed by some people...
An editor developed in java can open it almost instantly, but edit it it's a hard job, even in a Pentium4 3.0 HT with 512Mb of RAM DDR2 :/ ...M$ Word could open it too but it takes too long and it drives crazy trying to edit it. Now I'd learn why OOo couldn't open it, I don't know why M$ Word turns weird when manipulating the file, but i don't care, nor want to know!
Thank you in advance!
Best regards,
