I'm no Mac user, but I read somewhere that 'X' must be installed on o mac to run OO. _________________ Rightly to be great

We're just encountering problems trying to do this. Can't seem to install X11 Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger): there's no evidence that it's on the system --- Finder can find no evidence of it --- but every attempt to download/install X11 results in error messages to the effect that a *newer* version is already installed ...
But OOo install fails; it needs X11, which OOo's install recognizes is NOT installed. Anybody else encounter this? Alternatively, has anybody successfully installed OOo on a Mac running OS 10.4, and if so, how did you do it? |

euh.... some time ago I read that the Mac version of OOo 2 was postponed for a couple of years!
So I don't know what you're trying to install, but you should we working with the latest Mac build of OOo, and nothing else. (no 2.0 beta).
It can be found here:

It's 1.1.4 that we downloaded and are trying to install on Mac OS 10.4
Personally, I'm allergic to "beta" software: even the stuff that's tested to death and well established is difficult to install / configure. I won't touch OOo 1.9 with a ten-foot pole, and will probably wait until 2.1 at least before I consider up (de?) grading to the new version.
I'd really like to avoid having to go back to that worthless Microsoft Office stuff, so I'm motivated to get Open Office running on this new Mac ...

Well I'm running Beta 2 and its pretty stable on XP, as long as I do the straightforward stuff. _________________ Rightly to be great

There is a version of OOo called NeoOffice that works natively in Mac OSX, without using an X server:

I've never used a mac, but read somewhere that works quite well. |
