Running Kanotix (Debian clone) with 2.6.11 kernel.
Every other time I open a document in OO Writer the fonts are jagged and not spaced correctly. I've tested this over and over with odt, swx, doc files. First open is bad. I close, re-open and file looks great. Close and re-open and fonts look ragged.
I've tried from a console as well. No difference. Very strange. Any ideas?

I too experience this same problem. It also affects the fonts in the menues as well for me, making it look terrible. I have experienced this with SUSE LINIUX Pro 9.3 and Fedora Core 4, both using KDE. I have read previously that it is a known KDE problem with OpenOffice.org and I never really found a conclusion for it, unfortunately. It seems to happen randomally almost every other time that I open it, not just Writer though. I think I may have read something that said you have to compile it specifically for KDE, but I really don't know.
Hopefully this thread will shine new light on this problem and that hopefully somebody that knows of a reliable workaround for this might drop by.

It has nothing to do with the file. I've tired using alternating .odt files, as well as .swx files. After boot up the first open of OO is 'bad', second open is good, third is bad, and so on. Fonts are jagged and not rendered correctly with respect to leading etc.
It seems to me that a 'good' open does not do something 'important' when it is closed. The next open realizes this and fixes it but still displayes the file badly. The next open is good because the previous open fixed it.... but it will break again on the close. Just a guess.
I've tried the 'reload' option to no avail. This drives me nuts!! Between this bug and the crash when scrolling the font drop-down, I'll go back to 1.0. ... or install Crossover Office and use M$ Word 97 (which works flawlessly under CX.)
