| Is there a way to open an Excel spreadsheet that is protected.....the entire document is protected. I looked online for assistance but couldn't find anything. Any help would be appreciated. |

Hi
OOo cannot recognise Excel passwords. You won't be able to open a password protected document within OOo.
You could try opening with an Excel viewer, available free from www.microsoft.com, highlighting the whole sheet and then copying and pasting the lot into an OOo spreadsheet. You may encounter problems though if there are any fancy Excel Functions in there.
Try it and let us know.

I was able to open password protected excel files with 1.1.1.
I think ms abandoned the password protection in versions greater than 97, as excel 2000 didn't have password protection. |

Sure it does; both sheet and/or workbook protection [and cells of course.]

| Well....our users are using Excel 97....or they were.....until we migrated the company to Open Office (a total of 150 users). This is one of the bigger issues because the HR Department is now unable to open these files that were password protected. Is there any plans in future to provide this importable feature into OO? I know OO can protect; however, I need it to view protected Excel files....if it can't be done....I'll come up with something else. |
