Uh-oh - you got some reading ahead. Styles are a very important aspect of OOo. Consult the Help that comes with OOo.
For now, press F11 to open the lists of styles (or stylist as it's called). One of the styles is highlighted, that's the style of the paragraph where your cursor is. Right click on it and select Modify, select the Font tab and check what language is selected there. Then get back to the links in my first reply. _________________ LibreOffice 3.6.3; OOo 3.4.1 on Windows Vista

The whole language stuff has been changed in version 3. Go back to 2.4.x if you like. We can't change it. _________________ LibreOffice 3.6.3; OOo 3.4.1 on Windows Vista

It works well for me. You can make a screenshot and post it at www.mediafire.com or another freehoster. Or you can simply go through all tabs of that dialog box and find the language list. You need to get to know the program anyway, so you should really do that. _________________ LibreOffice 3.6.3; OOo 3.4.1 on Windows Vista

Aren't you just making life hard for yourself? Each and every program that you work with needs to be learned to work with. Give it that little time. We aren't the customer service or marketing department of OOo. Nobody here is sorry if you decide to use MS Word. Have a good day. Smile. _________________ LibreOffice 3.6.3; OOo 3.4.1 on Windows Vista

After going to bed last night it could be I was just a bit tired from working on it all night and reacted like a spoilt boy. It really bugs me, nobody "likes" OpenOffice and you go into the city and there are no books in the bookshops on OpenOffice, considered it is a very good program for a very good price (near free).,
Just before I made this posting I heard a customer from a local retailer running down OpenOffice saying "it is a old system" I replied that is the latest version,
I think I have a slightly older version, I might replace it.and keep you posted, |

On line book on Writer
I hate computer books with a passion. j/k Most of them just rehash what's in the Help or the manuals that come with the software (it's true that most software comes without manuals these days) with some dubious examples added for good measure and to make it to the required number of words. Yes, I'm being cynical now.
What language do you use? Canadian English seems to give a lot of problems and don't ask me why. Nobody "liked" MS DOS but still almost everybody used it.
OOo is free, unless you pay for a CD, and then you only pay the medium, not the software. I wouldn't count the cost of downloading it. Did you pay for it? Did you get it from www.openoffice.org? _________________ LibreOffice 3.6.3; OOo 3.4.1 on Windows Vista

Eh? It does?
I've been using Canadian English since 2.0.0 was in beta and have never had any problems. _________________ jrkrideau

Interesting I also have had no problem with Canadian English. There is a known problem with the distributed English (UK and US) for which a replacement dictionary can be found on the Extensions site.
You should tell us with which language you are having trouble. I use Canadian English and Canadian French as my two default languages which meant I had to create a custom style for it.
Also, since you are using Win7, did you install as administrator or lower you security setting before installing?
