Hi. I'm new to this whole Open Office thing and so far so good. I've spent hours and hours on the internet trying to fix the damn spell checking issues that a lot of users seemed to have, and incredibly, I seem to have fixed it. The only problem (so far) is that I have to click the ABC icon to fix the mistakes, and I saw that in older editions I could just right click the word and the options would show. Is there something I'm missing here?

Also, sometimes I'm writing a document in both Spanish and English and need to alternate between the two (to spell check), so I click on the Language tab (the one on the lower side next to Default and INSRT) to change languages and it changes back to the previous language, so I need to do it like 2 more times for it to stick. Any way to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

I didn't know that one could ever do this so no idea if you're missing anything.

It would, probably, be easier if you simply set up different language Styles—one in each language for each Style you normally use. That way, OOo automatically uses the correct dictionary to spell check. You can do this for the entire document by establishing English and Spanish templates, for the various paragraph Styles that you use and for an special character Styles you use, such as Emphasis or Heavy Emphasis.

I read that you could, at least in what seems to be an older version, don't know if it can still be done with version 3.2

I mean, it's not something I must have, I just think it would be much easier, and I wonder why they don't have it.

How can I do this? Is it by going to Tools > Language > For all text and then choosing the language of my choice?

No, you simply press F11 to open the styles list (or stylist, as it's affectionately called here), right click the style marked as default, select new, call the new style "spanish", select the font tab and select Spanish as language for that style. That will get you a paragraph style for all Spanish text. If you want a few words in Spanish in a paragraph in English, you'll need a character style, you can get that on the second tab from the left on the stylist. It's a good idea to read the Help about styles; styles are a very powerful part of OOo. Get comfortable with them. Cool It's worth the effort.
