OOoWriter seems to be incomatible with the HP Photosmart D7260 printer. I get the error message, "Incorrect paper size" (or something like that) Writer seems to insist on printing the letter first and then the envelope. Is there a way to just print an envelope without printing a letter first?

This is hard to answer without having your printer. However, if in Writer you do Insert > Envelope then the envelope will be the 1st page of the document and will print 1st unless you have the printer set to print in reverse order.

If you do Insert > Envelope, set it up and click New Document instead of Insert then you get an envelope only and can save as a template for future use.

Got it. I thought I had tried "New Document" but apparently I had only tried "Insert". I was about to delete my post but you answered it first. Thanks.

May I join this discussion? I have Mac OS X 10.5.2, Intel Core Duo.
Successfully printed envelopes using OO.o 2.2 and 2.3, but now with OO.o 2.4, it fails.
Using Insert > New Doc with #10 envelope fed vertical on right side.
Set to print 2.5" from top, the address is printed 7.25" down from top edge.
I would appreciate assistance. TIA, Floyd

The only things I can think of that might be the problem would be, on the "printer" tab, after you "Insert>Envelopes" you might have something entered in the "Shift" boxes or you might have the wrong position box selected. You could easily have the wrong position for the envelope selected and not notice it.

Thanks for the response.
I have tried all the printer tab options ... to no avail.
Maybe I can make contact with someone in development. Thanks

I find that I cannot print envelopes with my HP printer because it requires the envelope to be inserted with the flap on the left and OO Writer only offers the option of inserting it with the flap on the right. I experimented with several envelopes and adjusting the spacing of the text and got it to work with the flap on the right, but this does not work very well for two reasons:

1. The envelope frequently jams in the paper path.

2. Printing the return address last does not work well because the envelope is nearly out of the printing path and as a result it frequently smears the printing. Probably if I were using a printer that had a flat bed rather than a front feed like my HP would help, because the envelope would not just be "hanging" there at the end of the print path when the return address is printed, but this is definitely a shortcoming of OO Writer which prevents it from being a really good substitute for Word. As a result, I have to reboot into Windows from Linux every time I want to write a letter.

Bill

BillD,

Version 2.4 works with envelopes loaded on the right of the tray and the flap to the left. As I remember the icon for that still shows the flap on the right.

John -- Thanks for coming in here. Please refer to my initial message above. You will see that I have described the location of the printing, which is in the "flap on right" mode, but prints 7.25" down from the top of the "flap on right". Thank you, Floyd

I am trying to print an envelope with an HP photosmart 7260 printer. It wont print landscape...THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS! I have changed paper to envelope #10 and made sure it was on landscape, and it shows as landscape in the preview, but it won't print in landscape... Crying or Very sad

Hi Kcarr: Our HP prints when we insert the narrow edge of envelop. See route as in previous posting. We do not use landscape setting. Good luck

I have the same printer and I should point out that it's 99% a mystery to me but here's how I get it to print a #10:
With a document open, I choose INSERT > ENVELOPE
You get to set some parameters for the dimensions, etc.
Then, at the bottom of the window that opens, I choose NEW DOCUMENT.
I can then enter the addresses and, from the FILE menu choose PRINT
Then under PRINTING SHORTCUTS, I set Paper Size to Envelope #10, Orientation to Landscape and Print On Both Sides to Off. Then OK and OK.

Is this PRINTING SHORTCUTS something that you only see with that HP printer driver? I have an OKI C5150 and I don't see it. I also have no success printing envelopes. I have tried specifying every way to put the paper in and portrait/landscape but it just keeps printing the return address vertically at the end of the envelope as though it does not understand how the envelope is being loaded.

I see that reidfm seems to have had success EVEN TWO YEARS AGO with OO.o 4 Beta
But we still don't have a release of v4. And - where might I find this OO.o 4 Beta?

Wow, I think that's way past my ability. I'll try looking into it a little deaper and, if I think I've figured out anything that might help you, I'll let you know but don't hold your breath.
