Hi ,
When I use the text to coloumn macro available on this foroum , it does the job but suppose the data on which I run text to coloumn is like Abhilash Pingili{16665}
, when I run text to coloumn , the name is seperated fine , but the no. has a ' sign before it , like '16665 . Can anybody help me with this ? Also , when we select a delimiter , it shows the seperated text , but we cannot remove the line so that the seperation we do not want does not happen , just like we what we are able to do in Excel . Is that possible in this macro ? |

I cannot find anything in Help (or in any of the menus etc) on how to convert "text to columns". Surely the functionality built into Calc?
Can anyone please advise how to do this.
At this moment, I am pasting csv text from a text editor & I just want to parse based on the comas. The work around of pasting into a separate text file, saving with a .csv extension, then opening the file in Calc it painfully slow as I am selecting multiple sections of text from different files. Copy & past to Calc would be far more efficient |

A brief followup. I did install the macro without problem. It works fine, if a little less straightforward to use than the equivalent built-in functionality in Excel..
For the task I was doing, I ultimately found a more productive solution. I was starting with the csv file in a text editor (TextPad in my case) & I found it quicker to do a simple "replace all" operation to convert all comas to tabs, then copy & paste the tab delimited text into Calc. Calc automatically parses tab delimited text, so the data ends up in the correct columns without any further operations. Very simple & quick.
Of course that will not always work satisfactorily if there are text fields that contain comas, or in an number other situations, so I am sure that the macro will come in handy in the future My thanks to the author of the macro.
