DDE OLE DLL or Similar?

I would like to be able to control an opened spreadsheet with a Basic or other language program so that:

1) Any cell can be selected, updated, and displayed based on data received by the com port in the other program.

2). The remote program can read corresponding numeric data from cells as needed to to adjust conditions such as temperature, voltage, etc.

Maybe ooCalc has a port to enable this, or a dll enabler for dde, ole or other facillity.

Does anyone know of an economical ready solution for this?
