|
|
I've been searching around on the 'net and haven't come up with a decent way to do this:
I have a spreadsheet with 3 sheets -- "Escort", "Ranger", and "Chart".
The Escort and Ranger sheets are data for each vehicle's fuel use, using the following data: Date, Gallons, Miles, Price, Miles per Gallon, Price per Mile, Station Bought At.
Right now, on the 'Chart' sheet, I have two graphs showing the MPG and PPM for each vehicle. What I'd like to do and can't figure out how, is two combine the two graphs so that I can compare the vehicles a little easier. The only way I could get the data on the chart in any way close to what I wanted it was showing the information, but not keeping both ranges in sync for the date.
Is this possible? Do I need another sheet to combine the data for the chart with some magic thrown in so it makes sense and does what I'm asking of it?
I'd appreciate any help, and thank you in advance! |

As long as the data is in the same sequence on your sheets, you should be able to add a new data range, selecting the appropriate range from any sheet for the Y values.
- Double click to activate Chart editing.
- Right click the chart and select data range.
- Select the Series tab, and add a data series.
- Select Y-values, then tick your data range.
The exact procedure may vary a little, depending on type of chart. |

That is what I did before, and although it does get the data into the chart, it is not arranging it by date.
The Escort is from 05/14/2010, while the Ranger starts at 09/27/2010, as I recently bought the vehicle.
When I put the new data series into the chart, the Ranger data starts at the left of the chart, when it should be starting near the end. |

| If you need data arranged by date, it has to be an X/Y chart. With that, each data series has its own range for X and Y values (as opposed to bar charts which share a common label set for the X axis). For that to work, your dates have to be entered as spreadsheet date values, not text (if you entered them manually and did not get any ready made template from others, all should be well) |
