How do I make this sign in Write?
I have looked through Special Charactors but can't find it.

Thanks, but that is not the correct sign for Infinity.
The correct sign is basically a figure 8 on its side.

It's in the subset Mathematical operators (never mind that it's not an operator), U 221E.

Thanks, that gets me going for once off use.
But is there any way of typing directly in ie has the code U221e got anything to do with input typing?

It's the code in the Unicode system. On some systems it's not easy to insert Unicode characters by typing the code. You can search the forum for it: try thisl; http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=98633&highlight=unicode
