Okay, I've looked around and can't find an answer to this problem. It just started happening about two days ago. otherwise, everything was working fine. I have always created a header and then I 'insert', 'fields', 'page number.' Always before, 1, 2, 3 etc. have appeared in the header in that location, as desired, consecutively numbered on each page. however, now, all i get are the words 'Page numbers' just like that. no 1, 2, 3. only the words. no numbering. obviously, this is useless.
please help
thank you!!

Some how you have turned on "Field Names". View> Field Names (CTRL+F9) . That shows the name instead of the data for the field.
