|
|
I'm in the middle of using open office writer like I always do, and it suddenly crashes for no apparent reason and a box comes up saying Oo has crashed and is saving the open documents. I click ok, a small box comes up with a progress bar, but nothing ever takes place over the span of 3 minutes. I end up having to do control alt delete to shut it down. Try reopening it and it tries to recover the documents as it normally would, but when it gets to the document I was working on, it stops working and that other box that initially popped up during the crash comes on again, announcing open office has crashed and will save the documents. You have an option to press ok, so I do, and it snags the exact same way. I try to not press ok, and just x out of it, but it won't let. Again, i have to control alt delete to shut oo down. I've restarted the comp and it does it the same way again. I tried to open my document in Microsoft Works, but it says either the document is in use, it doesn't support that file extension, or the file is corrupt. Sigh. Need to open that document.
Thanks so much for the help. _________________ What happens with the eighteen hour bra...in the nineteenth hour? |

| I was having the exact same issue and I traced it back to a failed "Auto Update". When I would open any OO document the auto updater would fail behind unbeknownst to me and cause OO to crash. Resetting the user profile and running in XP mode did nothing to resolve the issue. After I turned off auto update my OO programs became stable again. I hope this helps those having the same issue. |

I get to options and try to get to On-line update - before I can change anything here it crashes again. This has been wrong for a long time..
Is there another way it can be changed.
Thanks

| Try doing a repair install and uncheck the option for Auto Update. |

Hi
Here is how I fixed my install - I didn't see an option to un-check in Repair so what I did was a Modify install - expanded additional options and de-selected the on-line update feature.
This was then removed and OO is working normally again.
Thanks for your pointer anyway. _________________ Kevin Passey |

| I obtain the option, and look at and go around the earth wide internet updates - just before I could change anything, it crashes again. this will be incorrect for almost any prolonged time. |
