|
|
Hi, I would like to learn Oo / Star basic. I have downloaded a number of pdf files from various links from Sun and Oo.org, but they all seem to start off with 'previous experience in basic is useful'
I have no previous experience with visual basic.
What I really need is book with step by step lessons, pdf files are very handy, but really you cannot beat a good book mainly because of the portability of it, office, lounge, bed etc.
Can someone point me in the right direction for a good starting point.
Thankyou kindly. |

Andrew Pitonyak has a book out - which I plan to invest in one of these days.
Andrew is an occasional contributor to this forum - you may already have a
pdf of his. |

Have fun with it !
I recommend the StarOffice 7 Programmers Guide as well. It's the main tutorial in pdf format for Starbasic/OOoBasic.

If you have a PDA then you can view PDF's on it (Tagged ones show up best on them) - Adobe produce a version of their Reader application for PalmOS.

Wow, thanks for all those links. I have found the star Office Programming guide to be most useful so far, in that it starts from the beginning and explains the basic elements of programming very well. However, it is heavy going for me and I will need to read it several tiomes before it starts to sink in.
I have played with an example as well, just changed some of the references in the macro to suit my own calc file (Combo-in_a_sheet_En.sxc) I found that a good way to learn.
Thanks again all. |

Yes absolutely right, practice practice and again practice. Nobody has ever learned a language by just reading the best tutorial there is about something.
That's why K&R "The C Programming Language" ships out with examples.
