|
|
Hi,
I just installed writer and I noticed when I was typing that the keystrokes/print was taking a long time. It was sluggish, not quick like word. Is there a setting that I can change to speed this up? I searched but couldn't find it.
If the characters are sluggish as I type them in--then I can't concentrate on writing--and I have to backspace to correct etc.
Thank you.

I have the same problem. I'm editing a 9 page document with a few jpegs and it's like I'm on an old Celeron 133 mhz junker.
System specs.
XP 64 Pro
Dual Xeon 5160 3.0ghz cpu's
16 gigs Ram.
Quadro 1700 Workstation graphics card
It aint my system for sure. No other applications running in the background or using CPU while doing this. What gives?
I really hope this isn't "just how it is". |

|

I too am having this issue. I don't like to use MicroSh*t but MS Office Word is a bit snappier when writing / typing.
How can I improve the 'snappiness' of typing using Open Office Writer?
There must be a way to fix this? It is driving me nuts..
I have turned off all Auto Correct options and the response rate to my typing is still slower than that of typing in this forum.
Why does Writer see to be so sluggish when typing? Is there a fix or optimisation I can implement to improve its speed and response when typing?
Thanks

Hi,
Using Fedora 14-64. Its a new install, 4 days old, all updates installed. Got 2 gig ram, half still free, 10-20% cpu usage with a 185 (939 socket) Opteron.
I have disabled all the auto complete functions, disabled java, and am using a Filco Mechanical keyboard via USB.
It should be 'snappier' than what it is.
I was about to start messing with nice and renice values for soffice.bin etc, but that is a whole can of worms I don't really want to dabble with unless someone has some bash commands they can post for me.
