xml filters do not work ( Mac OS X )

XML filters do not work on the OS X Platform (uses X11).
I am using version 1.1.2

I have followed the OOo writer XML filter tutorial at:

and I have yet to see an XML filter of any sort actually work on OS X.

Is this a bug on the OS X platform?

I have tested the tutorial on a windows machine and it works like
a dream - only a minor mod. to the export XSLT file was needed.

My use of openoffice.org hinges on this feature.
Word 2003 is too expensive for my org's needs and if I can get this to
work on OS X then this will make a lot of people happy.

I use Neo Office J on my mac after too many problems trying to run the X11 version.
