I've created a xml-filter to import a large xml-file into calc. It ran succesfull on my pc and I wanted my collegues to have this filter also, so I created a package and tried to install it on other pc's.
The strange thing is that on some configurations the filter works, on others it doesn't. I tried different versions of OO and LO and here are some results:

works:
Windows XP, Open Office 3.0.0, Java runtime 6.0.240
Apple Mac OS X (Snow Leopard), Open Office 3.2, Java runtime 1.6.0_24
Ubuntu 10.04, Libre Office 3.3.1, Java runtime 6.24-1 build 0.10.04.1

doesn't work:
Ubuntu 11.04, libre Office 3.3.2, openjdk-6-jre 6b22-1.10.1-0ubuntu1
(progressbar fills up to 50% than I get "General error. General Input-/output error (or something like that; translated from dutch))
Ubuntu 11.04, libre Office 3.3.2, Java runtime 6.24-1 build 0.10.10.1
(progressbar fills up to 50% than I get "General error. General Input-/output error (or something like that;translated from dutch))
Windows XP, Open Office 3.0.0, Java runtime ? (but probably older than 6.0.240)
(progressbar fills up to 50% than nothing)

Can anybody point out what's needed for xml-filters to work on different configurations and why I get those different results?
Thanks.

Java is a horrible can of worms. My Base databases run with one particular version of Java (Oracle's 1.6.22). Any other version (openjdk or different version number) makes the databases crawl beyond usability.

hmmm... I was afraid to get an answer like that. Hurray for "cross platform" technologies. Wink

I'm going to try to lower the Java version I have running on Ubuntu at home to 6.24-1 build 0.10.04.1. If only the Java-version is to blame, it should work then.

Any chance the development team ditch Java and opt for a more stable solution?
