Hello,
I've been working on a libreoffice database for about two months now, and today, when I tried to open it with base it I got a dialog titled "filter select" that listed several file formats. I chose ODF Database, and base opened it up, giving me a "general error"
Upon clicking on "Tables" I a dialog with the error "The connection to the data source "Database" could not be established
The driver class " could not be loaded"
Asking the dialog for more information gave me those same two errors.
I tried uninstalling libreoffice and installing openoffice instead, but to no avail.

I did some research and realized that my database used the embedded HSQL driver, but when clicking on edit->database->connection type it appears as a JDBC connection, and I am unable to find embedded HSQL (I realize that it may have nothing to do with the problem, but keep in mind I know nothing about this). I also emerged the package dev-db/hsqldb (which was not previously installed) but still nothing.
If you could help me out, that would be appreciated, I have spent many many hours working on this database, and it seems almost unacceptable to be forced to restart

Edit: I am running Gentoo Linux and libreoffice-bin 3.3

Hi
I'm having exactly the same problem - "The connection to the data source "Database" could not be established. The driver class " could not be loaded.
Please could you send me your magic recipe for sorting this?
Thank you very much,
Gill

Since my problem is connected to BETA version of LibreOffice 3.6 I could not find a solution here (Sliderule) ... maybe some one could help me anyway Smile ?

The problem is connected to LibreOffice 3.6 beta1. I can normally open file under LibO 3.5 but cannot open under LibO 3.6 b1.

Is is an Access database and while gioing to tables I got some errors:

1. The connection to the data source "file" could not be established.

2. SQL Status: HY000

The connection to the external data source could not be established. No SDBC driver was found for the given URL.

3. A connection for the following URL was requested "sdbc:ado:access:PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;DATA SOURCE=C:\file.mdb".

Thanks a lot!

Brgs,
wabik

I am trying to connect to a Microsoft Office .accdb file using Open Office. I am using the wizard and try to save New Database.odb. The message appears, "The connection to the data source "New Database" could not be established. The connection could not be created. May be the necessary data provider is not installed."
I click on More and the message basically repeats with no additional details.
I tried upgrading to Open Office 3.4 but got the same results.

I, too, am having this problem.
"Connection to the data source... could not be established"

Sliderule, could I have a PM as well, or could you post the solution?

THANKS!
