Problems getting spelling correction to work in Spanish

I just installled a Spanish language version of OO for a buddy. Unfortunately, the spelling checker doesn't seem to work. I'm having a bit of a problem figuring it out because I don't speak Spanish myself, so I have to ask my friend to read the menus to me.

So... Can anyone help?

How do you type "special characters" in Spanish? (The little twiddly thing over the "n" etc.)

Do I need to download a special dictionary to get it to spell check?

Running OpenOffice 1.1.2, Spanish, on a Windows 98 machine.

Even if it not was aimed for win98 ,, and there was no responce to my question or problems ,, this might give you some clues
