Hi

I'm editing a document for a trial for a job involving proofreading. I use OpenOffice on this PC, though I think I have an old copy of MS Office on a desktop that I don't really use except for media (and doesn't actually have a desk next to it).

The client wants me to track changes in the document I edit. Can I do this in Openoffice and expect them to be viewable in MS Word?

Yes, that will work. However, if you need to return it as Word file and it's a complex file with headers/footers and some more complex stuff, you may find that some of that will not convert properly. Many professionals will not worry about a few lost headers because they're quickly restored, but if your employer to be is very particular, you may be in trouble, and in that case you should consider working with Word.
