Loss of symbols from 1.1.0 to 1.1.3

I have just tried to switch from OpenOfiice 1.1.0 to 1.1.3 (on a Linux Mandrake 9.2) .

On a previously written document, all my symbol (logical) characters (and, or, not, implies, ...)
do not appear as before : some are replaced by spaces, others are replaced by different symbols.

How can I get the older symbols ? Do I have to go back to 1.1.0 ?

PS My 1.1.0 install was a personnal one ( I have installed it in a mono user mode) and my
1.1.3 install was done in multi user mode (as "root"). May this explain my problem ?

Post PS: Since my firts post, I have tried several things :
1rst, when I print a document from 1.1.0, several symbols (such as the implication '->') are
not well printed, while they appear correctly on my screen and when I print the pdf version
of my file.
2nd, for the same document on 1.1.3 no logical symbol appear correctly on my screen, but
now they are correctly printed !
I think I will temporarily use 1.1.0 to edit my documents and 1.1.3 to print them, but I
fear I will have to come back later to MS Word
