I understand that developers are working on a totally new chart system for openoffice calc. Does anyone know how the status of this project?

The current charting system is quite clunky and resource intensive. This an area where Excel really has it over openoffice. |

| Yeah, this is good news. Calc is is particular difficult to switch to. I agree with you, the current charting system is no good. |

| Yep, couldn't agree more, although currently in Open Source land the charting possibilities in Calc are way ahead of the alternatives like Gnumeric or KSpread. |

| Oops, Curtz, don't call these 'junk'. They have different backgrounds and histories and philosophies. Linux is conceived around having collections of small tools that each do their tasks to perfection. Charting was not considered a tasks for a spreadsheet. You had plotting tools for that. Especially gnumeric is around for a long time, and actually, I guess that efforts to build charting support into it are only recent. Indeed last week I launched Gnumeric out of curiosity on my Mandrake box and I guess charting is still buggy. On the other hand, Gnumeric has a whole array of statistical analysis tools. Also, we've had a question on a 'solver' for OOo calc on the ooodocs forum. Gnumeric has it, OOo Calc not (yet). |

Yep... I believe that the only one who could be named 'junk' would me M*...
But we must respect everyone to be respected...
On the other hand, M* is a commercial company... They can pay full-time programmers
to add/solve some issues on their software...
Who can beat that? _________________ tyFUZZ |

Just kidding, guys, don't even know the programs.
My point was just, don't compare with anything that is not as good, when you have something better to compare with! |

We are on our way! But to beat the camp, we must be smarter and better. That means that we should not focus on what we have but on what we want.
I want Calc to be an Excel killer! |
